Dr. Jennifer Starkel
I'm from a small town in Connecticut. I received my Bachelor of Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire in 2001, then my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2005.
I enjoy spending free time with my husband and our two energetic sons, as well as our four-legged furry babies. We also like to visit family and friends in the Midwest and New England when we can. When I can find some alone time, I love to read and run (aside from chasing around those energetic boys).
Dr. John Samuelson
I’m a 2003 graduate of the University of Minnesota. My areas of interest are small animal medicine and surgery. I also enjoy small ruminant medicine and surgery.
I’m married to my college sweetheart Jody, and we currently reside with our two dogs, Gonzo the bullmastiff and Wally a Boston terrier mix. In the summertime, our Sonoran Desert tortoise comes out of hiding. I enjoy trail running, fly fishing, and escaping the summer heat into the White Mountains.

I was born and raised in a small town in New Jersey. I attended University of Maryland for my undergraduate work, and graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in May of 2017. While doing my undergraduate degree, I worked as a Veterinary Assistant to gain experience to help prepare me for my studies of Veterinary Medicine. I take special interest in internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology and dermatology for pets.
>My boyfriend and I share our house with our two cats. I love reading, biking, hiking, and playing board games. I’m thrilled to join the AZPetVet family!
Dr. Jackelyn Kearney
I’m a native Phoenician - born and raised in Glendale (just like Arrow Animal Hospital - the very first AZPetVet location). I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology at Colorado State University, followed by vet school at Midwestern University in Glendale to earn my DVM! While I’m a newer veterinarian, I’ve been a veterinary assistant at AZPetVet Arrowhead Ranch since 2011, so it’s fair to say I’ve learned a lot along the way. I’ve been a member of the Midwestern Shelter Medicine Team since 2015, providing spaying and neutering for shelter pets. I’m really interested in pain management, anesthesiology, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, hospice care and feline medicine.
My husband Shea is also a native Arizonan. He’s a firefighter in Gilbert. We have two dogs, Holly (border collie mix) and Osha (pitbull mix). Shea and I stay active chasing the dogs, going rock climbing, backpacking and kayaking. I love to cook and make time for yoga to wind down. While I’ve been a member of the AZPetVet family for years, I’m excited to meet this branch of the family - especially all of the wonderful, goofy fur balls - they always keep me smiling.
