Our Doctors

Dr. John Samuelson
I’m a 2003 graduate of the University of Minnesota. My areas of interest are small animal medicine and surgery. I also enjoy small ruminant medicine and surgery.
I’m married to my college sweetheart Jody, and we currently reside with our two dogs, Boomer the Chihuahua, and Wally a Boston terrier mix. In the summertime, our Sonoran Desert tortoise comes out of hiding. I enjoy trail running, fly fishing, and escaping the summer heat into the White Mountains.

Dr. Erin Thompson
I joined AZ Pet Vet after completing my DVM at Colorado State University in 2007. While I loved my time spent in Colorado, I was excited to move home to the warm, sunny desert!
Over the years I have had the opportunity to spend time at multiple locations, with my most recent transition bringing me to Madison Animal Hospital. I am devoted to bringing health and wellness to your furry family.
In my off time I am a mommy to two precocious little girls, as well as their ‘sisters’ Mini the lab mix and Puffaloon the kitty. Our family loves to spend time together in the kitchen cooking, playing outdoors and reading lots of books.
I look forward to getting to know your family, both furry and otherwise!

Dr. Jackelyn Kearney
I’m an Arizona native. I grew up in north Phoenix and began my career in veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant with AZPetVet Arrowhead Ranch in 2011, and ultimately as a veterinarian with AZPetVet Madison in 2018. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology at Colorado State University in 2014, followed by vet school at Midwestern University in Glendale to earn my DVM in 2018. A large portion of my studies was focused on shelter medicine, providing spaying and neutering for rescue pets, as well as internal medicine. My special interests include pain management, anesthesiology, hospice care, and feline medicine.
I live here in Central Phoenix with my husband, Shea, who works as a firefighter for the town of Gilbert, and our two dogs, Holly (border collie mix) and Osha (pitbull mix). We stay busy kayaking on the Salt River, rock climbing, and backpacking. I love to unwind by practicing pilates and reading on the patio during our great Arizona winters!

Dr. Lauren Bufe
I grew up in beautiful Massachusetts and attended Boston University where I studied cellular and molecular biology. I had an internship during my senior year of college at a small animal practice, and fell in love with the profession! After graduation, I worked in lung cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for two years before returning to veterinary school at Midwestern University. During school I had the opportunity to regularly volunteer for MWU’s Mobile Clinic to provide free wellness services to underserved areas in Greater Phoenix. My professional interests include dermatology and neurology. One of the most rewarding parts of being a veterinarian is working with clients to make the best decisions for their pets to give them a long, healthy life.
At home, I have a loveable Lab-mix named Bo, and on my off days you might find me hiking, running, skiing, or watching football or hockey. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!
